CONTEST RULES
• This contest is open to anyone except all employees, directors,
associates, and immediate families of THE MOVIE DEAL!
Screenplay contest.
• The script/entry must have title page containing: the title,
author's name, E-mail address, phone number and home
address.
• Multiple entries are permissible, but each entry must be
accompanied by a seperate Entry Form and entry fee.
• Once material has been entered, no substitutions of new drafts
or corrected pages will be considered. You may submit a revised
draft of your script, short story, logline or synopsis as a new
submission, fill in an entry form and pay the appropriate entry
fee if you would like.
• Adaptations from other works are permissible provided you have
the writer's written permission to adapt the work.
• Adaptations of works in the public domain are permissible.
• Collaborative work is eligible, the writers are responsible for the
distribution of the contest prize(s).
• Writers under the age of 18 years old must have parents
permission to participate.
• Contest applicants must accept without reservation the
decisions rendered by the judges.
• The work or submitted material must not have been previously
optioned, sold, or produced for profit.
• Writer understands and accepts without reservation that
he/she/ is an independent contractor and that Contest
Administrators are not responsible for withholding any taxes or
payments to any government agency, at any level, be it state,
local or federal.
• Writer understands that it is his/her sole responsibility to
register Material with the U.S. Copyright Office and/or with the
Writer’s Guild of America or the appropriate agency in his/her
country.
• You must retained at least one copy of the submitted material,
and you understand that all material we receive cannot and will
not be returned under any circumstances.
• You have the option of including a one page synopsis of your
screenplay.
• Make your money order, bank/personal check, credit card check
(in U.S. funds only), payable to:
"The Movie Deal!" - see address on Entry page
• Short Scripts must be 40 pages or less. Full length screenplays
may not exceed 140 pages. Pilots may not exceed 60 pages.
Scripts must be in industry standard format, in English.
• All entries must be received by September 30th, 2008. The
Movie Deal reserves the right to extend the posted contest
deadline up to 90 days.
• THE MOVIE DEAL is not responsible for late or lost submissions.
• When your script, application, and payment have all been
received, you will be notified by E-mail only (within four-six
weeks). So please provide an appropriate E-mail address; If
your email address and/or home address changes please let us
know.
• By entering this contest and in the event you are declared a
finalist, you understand and accept that we will be free to use
your name and likeness for advertising or promotional purposes
without additional consideration.
• If you are a finalist you agree to give THE MOVIE DEAL the
permission to post on its web site your script's logline and
synopsis.
• All contest participants understand and agree with the following:
THE MOVIE DEAL very much intends to offer an option and
production agreement to the Grand Prize Winner of each year's
contest, but reserves the right to award a cash prize, at its
discretion, in lou of the option and production agreement, in an
amount not less then 10% of the total application fees collected
from all full-length screenplay entries of the same year. The
Grand prize Winner is under no obligation to accept the option
and production agreement upon its offering. The Grand-Prize
Winner will not be awarded or be due a cash prize upon electing
not to move forward with the option and production deal when
offered, but will receive all other prizes listed under the Grand
prize heading.
THE MOVIE DEAL may develop a series or documentary style
program based on the inner workings of the contest and the
production resulting therefrom. THE MOVIE DEAL reserves the
right to contact contestants with offers to participate in any such
production. Contestants are under no obligation to participate
therein.
• Contestants may submit their screenplay to any other person,
contest, producer, agent, publisher, and/or organization.
• Contestants retain all rights to their screenplay, subject
to the terms and agreements contained herein.
